20 More content ideas for your newsletter...

Following some great feedback to one of our blogs earlier this year, we've decided to include 20 more newsletter ideas. Have you got any more to add?

  1. Share content – link to other websites or blogs that your readers might find useful or interesting and provide comment.
  2. Case studies – add a client focus section which looks at how a client may have benefited from your advice or service. Include a video testimonial to make it more powerful.
  3. Online poll – pose one question with multiple choice options and then share the results in your next newsletter.
  4. Education corner – demystify a technical subject and ask for requests from readers for forthcoming issues.
  5. Guest spot – invite an outside writer, perhaps a well-known blogger in your industry or a professional connection, to produce an article or to comment on a subject.
  6. Charity focus – you don't just need to share stories of YOUR charity efforts but what about your clients?
  7. Question of the month – ask a question in the newsletter where the answer is hidden in the content of another article and encourage further navigation of your newsletter.
  8. Recommended reading – share some useful online links or titles of publications for your clients to read.
  9. Event sign-ups – include a side bar, listing your upcoming client events. Consider creating an event landing page where clients can sign-up to their selected events throughout the year.
  10. Key dates – include a regular side bar that lists key dates that clients should be aware of.
  11. Ask the expert – invite readers to ask a question around anything to do with your line of business and then share the answer in the next newsletter. Always carry the photo of the adviser answering the question to make it more engaging.
  12. Mix it up - offer an inspirational quotation, brain teaser or joke.
  13. Include social network links - include a live feed in your newsletter from Twitter if you are actively using this channel.
  14. 14. Include your electronic signature and image – as an adviser the more personalised the newsletter, the more impact it has.
  15. List any sponsorship activity - if you are sponsoring the local football then share their news, their success stories and even when they lose!
  16. Give reader options - consider including a quick poll of different topics clients can subscribe to.
  17. Tip of the month - in a professional advisory business you are perfectly placed to offer a useful tip of the month. Keep this consistent and readers will come to expect it.
  18. Media coverage - share any coverage in the media and link to it online.
  19. Ask for feedback – if you change your brand, introduce a new service or change your website, ask your readers for feedback – a great focus group exercise.
  20. Vote – your clients are one of your best routes to knowing what works in your business so ask their opinion. Share information and then ask people to vote – a great way of testing the market.
